HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf is a mono laser compact MFP that is available for a low price and it is very easy to install too. The print speeds are quick and you will surely love its compact design. The manufacturer says that the monthly recommended volume is about 250 to 2,000.
Replacement cartridge for this printer will cost you $68 in 2011 which gives 1,600 sheets and average cost per sheet is 4.2 cents. The cartridge that is bundled with the printer isn’t fully filled. Big offices who are looking for shared workhorse will have to spend more on a robust machine which has higher capacity toner, higher duty cycle and lower cost per page.

In my lab tests, the HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf MFP was really consistent in my three speed monochrome tests – presentation, graphics and text. The manufacturer claims that the printer has 19 ppm but in my lab tests, it was 15-16 ppm or pages per minute. It is been a while since I got a multifunction mono laser printer in my labs for reviewing and hence it is hard to compare.
The three most recent ones that I got were Samsung ML-2525W, HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn, and Brother MFC-2270. These three printers were slower than the HP’s product by three to five ppm. I would readily recommend the HP printer looking at the low price and the functionality. One area of concern is the copying speed which is six ppm. During testing, I had two paper jams which further slowed down the process of copying. I then set the printer in Ethernet network and the printing speed was the same as that on USB connection.
Quality – HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf
The quality of graphics and text on the HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf MFP is quite acceptable. The text looks crisp and it is legible down to two point font. However, the depth is not as some other printers. I saw banding in grayscale graphics too but it is still not a deal breaker for any professional business.

This product can also be returned within 21 days of its delivery. It is a very inexpensive multifunction laser printer and I would readily recommend it to offices.
